I don’t mean to sound harsh, but dude! You just answered your own question. If you think your work is bad, then why should people follow you? Luck has nothing to do with it really, you might get a lucky break gaining exposure but you need to have something people will want to keep coming back to. I’m not trying to tell you what to do, I don’t know the exact formula. But… make good art! Just keep churning out work and talk to people and get involved. Try focusing on being a better illustrator / artist rather than a popular one… followers come with time and effort. I wouldn’t expect them to be handed to you on a platter, you have to earn it. And for Gods sake, give it time!
